Display and Design

The two Pro models retain the premium iPhone design while using an aluminium unibody construction with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and back.

The iPhone 18 Pro has a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, whereas the iPhone 18 Pro Max comes with a larger 6.9-inch screen. Both support Apple’s ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates of up to 120Hz.

The displays also include Always-On functionality, Dynamic Island, True Tone and HDR support. Outdoor peak brightness can reach 3,000 nits, making the screens easier to view in bright surroundings.

A20 Pro Chip Brings the Performance Upgrade

At the heart of both smartphones is Apple’s A20 Pro chip. It features a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a dual 16-core Neural Engine.

Apple has also added a next-generation vapour chamber to improve heat management during demanding tasks. This is particularly useful for activities such as gaming, video editing and other workloads that keep the processor busy for longer periods.

The phones also run iOS 27 and support Apple’s latest Apple Intelligence features, including the new Siri AI experience.

Camera System Gets a Major Change

Photography is one of the biggest areas of change on the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

Both phones feature a 48MP Fusion camera system, with the main camera gaining a variable aperture. Users can choose between different aperture settings, giving them more control over light and depth of field.

The rear camera setup includes:

  • 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture
  • 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera
  • 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera
  • Up to 8x optical-quality zoom
  • Digital zoom up to 40x for photos
  • Pro camera controls
  • 48MP macro photography
  • ProRAW support

The telephoto camera also supports optical-quality 8x telephoto capabilities, while the main camera offers a 2x optical-quality option. (Apple)

For selfies and video calls, Apple has equipped both phones with an 18MP Center Stage front camera. It supports features such as Center Stage for video calls, autofocus and ultra-stabilised video.

Video Recording Features

The iPhone 18 Pro models are also aimed at users who regularly record videos.

The main camera can record 4K Dolby Vision video, including high frame-rate recording up to 120fps in supported modes. Apple also includes Cinematic mode, Action mode, ProRes recording and Apple Log 2.

For creators, the phones offer additional controls for settings such as aperture, shutter speed and white balance.

Battery Life and Charging

Battery performance has also received attention in the new Pro lineup.

According to Apple’s India specifications, the iPhone 18 Pro provides up to 34 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach up to 43 hours of video playback. The Pro Max is rated for up to 29 hours of typical use per charge.

Both models support faster wired charging and can reach up to 50% battery in around 15 minutes when paired with a compatible 60W or higher adapter and USB-C cable. MagSafe charging can reach 50% in around 30 minutes with a compatible 35W or higher adapter.
